‘The vibe is so transcendent in places you feel you are in motion listening to it, transported in a stupor through some faerie glade and awake before you have time to register what has happened.’  The Quietus

‘Blissed out electronics with heavenly melodies, ‘IKA’ soars outward to the sun with that lingering sense of dangerous descent underneath.’ Clash

‘While the likes of Bjork, Efterklang and Braids are audible influences, Balčus is creating her own path in music that feels unique and has the potential to see her become a major international star.’ Gigwise

Elizabete Balčus releases new track, IKA, out on August 10, via Wall of Sound. The track is self-produced and was recorded and mixed in Riga, Latvia, at Studio 55 by Silverstrs Zemgals.

The new track, IKA is inspired by Greek mythology, the story of Icarus, as Elizabete transports us with her experiential electronic euphoria, hyphenated with sounds suggesting a luminous future, Elizabete evokes moments of Efterklang, Bjork or Aphex Twin in her sounds. Beautiful harmonies intertwine, as sounds muse, hinting at an occasional industrial experimentation. Elizabete seeks out the world of Icarus as she soars metaphorically reaching for the sun, demonstrating her courageous and experimental soul, as she cautiously searches for new horizons beyond the everyday.

Elizabete Balčus creates a musical cosmos, looping flute and voice, clicking electro pop beats, with vegetables wired up to a synthesizer, leaving the listener in a blissed-out trance like state, somewhere between the waking and sleeping. Live performances engage the audience with a psychedelic and theatrical situation that is as bewildering as it is mesmerizing demonstrating Elizabete’s personal ambition to create, to achieve and to dream more.

A Latvian musician and performance artist Elizabete Balčus creates neo-psychedelic dream pop from collaged, genre juxtapositions that are simultaneously melodic and experimental working with a strong visual aesthetic that draws upon modern surrealism, contemporary fashion and geometric imagery. Elizabete attended The Latvian Academy of Music in order to study classical and jazz flute, plus opera vocal in Rome’s Santa Cecilia Academy.

Her debut album ‘Conarium’  was released under the UK label ‘Liminal Noise’, she won the annual Latvian Music Recording Award ‘Zelta Mikronfons’ 2017 for best alternative / indie pop album of the year and was nominated for the Latvian ‘Mercury Prize’– ‘Austras Balva’, for best album of 2017. Elzabete has been busy of the last year performing at live festivals including: Eurosonic Noorderslag Tallinn Music Week (2018) Scenica Festival (2018) Vittoria, The Great Escape (2017) Brighton, Reeperbahn Festival (2017) Hamburg.
