‘…beautifully constructed tightly wound guitar based epics that unfurl like late the best of late seventies Television and Patti Smith, with a folk and Americana twist,’ New Roots
‘Powerful, folk-hewn storytelling,.. strikingly personal lyricism’ Clash
‘The new single from House Above The Sun… recalls both Television and Son Volt’ Americana UK
House Above The Sun announce their debut single Runaway Devil, an enticingly quirky showcase for their roots and blues-driven sound, released on September 1. In true folk storytelling tradition, this is a powerful but soulful morality tale about power, corruption and the dark forces of oblivion.
The four piece present a beatnik Americana sound combining elements of folk, rock, blues and country flavours and is reminiscent of artists such as Son Volt, Pat Dam Smyth, Dry The River, Kurt Vile, Lucinda Williams, Wilco and White Stripes.
Runaway Devil is a timely depiction of unbridled greed and power running riot in modern day life, but one in which the oppressors, unbeknown to themselves, are being controlled. As the band’s lead songwriter Jim Moreton says the song “mourns the corruptibility of those in serious positions of power and influence, yet also suggests the paradox that those are the ones being controlled.”
This macabre yet comical story comes complete with a mixed-media video promo constructed by director Carmela Alvarado, splicing animation and film together to create some truly striking and original results.
The release of Runaway Devil comes ahead of the band’s first full length album Five Hours North, scheduled to hit the shelves on October 27.
